Introducing Prague
Prague is a wonderful destination for the tourist. Referred to by some as the “Paris of the East,” that sobriquet, in our opinion, is well deserved for this beautiful city on the Charles River. Wander the streets of the city and feast your eyes on steeples, turrets and towers, architecture from Medieval to Baroque, Art Nouveau and Secession buildings which glow golden in the late afternoon light. In the evening, visit the opera, where Mozart, himself, conducted the first performance of his incredible “Don Giovanni.” If your luck is running, they may actually be performing that opera. You can see a great deal of Prague in three days, but five to seven would be more suitable to capture its flavor, particularly if you plan to take a tour outside of the city.

Getting There
Delta Airlines (800-241-4141) flies non-stop to Prague from U.S. gateway cities. Czech Airlines (800-223-2365) will get you there, as well. We flew to Paris for a few days, then to Prague with Air France (under two hours), back to Paris for another few days, and home. Remember this, if you are flying within Europe from city to city, be sure to include a Saturday overnight—the weekend fare is much cheaper. Traveling roundtrip during the week, let’s say from Paris to Prague roundtrip, is nearly twice the price as a flight that includes Saturday night at your destination.

Money Exchange
Be sure to change your money during the week in a bank, where the commission is usually between 1-3%. You’ll pay higher commissions at the private exchanges or change bureaus located on the street.
